(DEANNA enters stage right.)

DEANNA

Stanley. I see you’ve returned. Again. I hope you are treating my dear Adeline well. I remember last time you were here our manager asked you to leave, no? How about we keep this simple. She takes your order, you say thank you and nothing more. Okay? Okay.

(DEANNA pulls ADELINE up stage left, out of STANLEY’s earshot. STANLEY takes out a newspaper and begins to read, a smug look on his face.)

DEANNA

I thought you said you would tell someone about him.

ADELINE

I know, Dee. I know. It’s just, I never see him outside of the diner anymore. After he leaves, it’s fine. And I need the money. He gives me better tips than half these people in here.
